Our customer Christine became interested in buying a garden room when she took part retirement from her job as an art and design lecturer in 2017. Christine wanted to keep her creativity flowing so decided to shop around for her own studio space.

After looking around online, our customer decided to visit Johnsons display village at Westwood Cross, Kent. “I liked that I could visit a showroom to physically see the rooms and work out spacing by standing in one”, Christine noted. “Talking to someone face to face helped me to get a lot of information and it was great to see the garden rooms set up with different displays”.

Christine bought a New Pavilion (5m x 4m) which was the perfect fit for her garden art space. “The delivery team were really helpful and made it worth the wait. They brought the materials in through the side of the house through fence panels, built the room, installed the electrics, laid the floors and left us with all the information that we needed to know”, Christine explained.

Christine now uses her garden room to run her successful glass fusion business, designing and creating art pieces for sale in galleries and high-end craft markets. The space also doubles as a workshop to run classes and experience days for fused glass, printmaking and fine art. “I’m able to easily move the room around to suit what I’m teaching on the day” commented Christine. Holidaymakers who visit her seaside town in Kent often book sessions as part of their vacation plans.

Christine keeps a kiln inside her garden room (kept at least 30cm from the walls) to aid with her glass fusion. When it gets warm, she opens the windows to release the comforting aroma of the wood – “All of my visitors love the aromas that the warm wood creates and comment on the lovely natural timber on the insides of the room.”

Christine loves having her own space to be inspired to create and teach art. The profits from her sales pay for glass to make what she wants for herself. She observed “My garden room feels like a place to escape and be creative. I love that it’s separate from my house and living area, especially as I work with glass!”
